Escape

This past weekend, FB and I decided we needed to get away from the rat race that is Northern Virginia; so we packed our bags and headed to New York.

We bypassed New York City and headed up to Woodstock, NY where we enjoyed a relaxing Saturday sipping hot chocolate at an organic coffee shop and discussing camping gear at the local general store. We  received a lesson in printmaking at an art gallery and bought the perfect rug for my bedroom at the coolest rug store I've ever had the pleasure of visiting (I must mention, I've been searching for the perfect rug for the longest time - so this was a definite win).

Loved this sign

Saturday evening we headed back towards the city. On the way we enjoyed a delectable dinner at Harvest on the Hudson, in Hastings, New York. FB had the red snapper. I thoroughly enjoyed my first taste of crispy pork belly (if you've never had the pleasure, I highly suggest trying it at least once).

Sunday, we spent time with my parents, and Monday we headed back to Virginia (and the rat race).

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend.

I hope you can say the same. Until next time, a little something to think about:

Find the time...
the time to read
to smell the flowers
to have coffee with a friend
to learn a new craft
to write a letter
to bake a surprise cake
to go somewhere special
to really be with the person you love
or even to do nothing for awhile...

Grateful

February 2011; Three weeks after my last round of chemotherapy.

Dr. C.: Your latest set of biopsies came back negative.

Me: So, it's gone?

Dr. C.: It's gone.

Me: So...would you say I'm in remission?

Dr. C.: You are in remission.

Me: Officially in remission?

Dr. C.: (Smiling) Officially in remission.

I'm in remission...I'm in remission. It still feels surreal to say that.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity to celebrate a year of remission this month...here's to many more.

Some things to remember as you continue this wonderful journey called life:

I'll look back on this and smile because it was LIFE and I decided to live it...

Not to spoil the ending for you...but, everything's going to be okay.

Don't look back...you're not going that way.

Your life is made up of two dates and a dash. Make the most of the dash...

Because when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing.

"It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all - in which case, you fail by default." - J.K. Rowling

Be a Fruit Loop in a world full of Cheerios

Be Fearless: If you make only one resolution this year, let it be to live boldly. You control this moment: Rather than cautiously test the water, dive straight into life with freeing abandon. Imagine the person you want to be and the life you want to live, then simply commit to them. Believe in yourself. Embrace your beauty. Discover a new passion. And whatever you do, wherever you go, don't be afraid to make a splash.
